LaCie is releasing a range of desktop hard disk drives with capacities up to two terabytes.
The new Big Disk Extreme+ also comes equipped with three interfaces - FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0. Compatible with PC or Mac, the drives start at $350 and £269.
The external hard disk drive uses two internal drive mechanisms pre-configured in a RAID Level 0 array. The system can lay flat or upright, and can also be rack-mounted.

The drive also features LaCie's new "Shortcut" button, which automatically launches any application including the included EMC Retrospect backup software.
Inside the drive case the mechanisms spin at 7200 RPM and feature 32MB of combined data cache.
The drives come in 1TB and 1.5TB configurations for $349.99 and $599 respectively, and a 2TB model is coming in August for $849. In the UK, prices are set at £269, £389 and £669, respectively.

I have had the 1TB model with the two 500GB drives that are in a RAID0 array. It has failed twice within 1 year and I have lost a ton of data. These drives are worthless in my opinion. I would never, ever buy a hard drive solution that relies on RAID 0. There are too many variables that will cause you to lose all your data. I would recommend buying a 1TB Hitachi drive. If you need 2TB of storage get yourself a RAID 5 array. Trust me avoid these RAID0 drives, they are ticking bomb waiting to lose your data. Mike
