Fujitsu, NetApp to expand global partnership

Plans to integrate NetApp's storage software with Fujitsu resource management suite

Fujitsu and NetApp have announced that they would deepen their partnership globally and jointly develop integrated products and services. The announcement was made at VISIT 2009, Fujitsu's IT fair.

The move should enable their customers to drive greater value and efficiencies from their IT infrastructures, said Fujitsu.

The relationship will leverage NetApp's work in storage management software. The move will boost Fujitsu's comprehensive resource management framework, which its year-old dynamic infrastructure push is based on. Part of the alliance is the full integration of NetApp V-series with Fujitsu ETERNUS storage systems.

Elaborating on the relationship, Kai Flore, President and CEO, Fujitsu Technology Solutions, said that there were two ways a service provider could quickly grow it's expertise: M&As and tight alliances.

Buying up companies, he said, introduced integration difficulties, which is why Fujitsu decided to go down the alliance route. "From our perspective, NetApp has a very successful portfolio. With NetApps, we can provide first-class service to our customers," he said.

The companies also announced their intention to implement a global joint go-to-market strategy involving complementary products.

It is not clear how this new relationship will affect Fujitsu's ongoing partnership with EMC.
