SSDs will drive down storage costs

The use of solid-state memory for disk as well as controller caches will help drive down costs and raise performance, says storage solutions firm NetApp.
"NetApp announced two significant advancements to deliver on our strategy to drive IT costs down and improve performance through the use of solid-state memory for disk as well as for controller caches," says NetApp chief marketing officer, Jay Kidd.
"In addition, we have unveiled V-Series support for our partner Texas Memory Systems' RamSan-500 solid-state disk (SSD) array and new industry-standard benchmark results for the NetApp Performance Acceleration Module," Kidd says.

"The NetApp Performance Acceleration Module improves efficiency and performance by 27 per cent, reduces rack space by 44 per cent, and lowers electricity usage by 47-54 per cent."
"Texas Memory Systems brings more than 30 years of enterprise-class SSD technology expertise to NetApp customers," said Texas Memory Systems executive vice president, Woody Hutsell.
