Tech start-ups could soon be operating out of London bus

IncuBusLDN wants to run an incubator for 18-25 year olds out of a bus

Tech start-ups could soon be running their businesses out of one of London's famous double decker buses if a crowdfunding campaign is successful.

IncuBusLDN, a proposed start-up incubator for people aged 18-25 that’s run out of a bus in Tech City, has raised 85 percent of its £50,000 funding target so far.

Founders Rishi Chowdhury and George Johnston envisage that the programme will run over a three or six-month period, with selected candidates being given the resources, skills and foundation to help them start-up and grow their business.

The programme also offers participants the opportunity to do a three-month paid work placement with some of London’s most successful start-ups, including Huddle and Enternships.

“We’ll typically be taking five to 10 percent [equity] in each of our start-ups,” said Chowdhury. “If just one of these goes on to be successful, you could see huge returns.”

The £50,000 is reported to be going towards finishing bus renovations, super fast mobile broadband, climate control, board room and presentation space.

Resources will be provided to start-ups on the programme by partners and sponsors such as Rackspace and KPMG.

Last year, the pair tried to get investment for through a reward-based Indiegogo campaign but were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Seedrs, which offers investors equity in return for cash, appears to be a better fit.

The founders of IncuBus envisage taking the bus incubator idea across the UK and abroad.
