Google CFO and CBO take millions in bonuses while founders take nothing

Google boasts a market value in excess of £230 billion

Article comments

Google revealed yesterday that it will pay finance chief Patrick Pichette a $3 million (£1.81 million) annual bonus, and chief business officer Nikesh Arora a $3.5 million (£2.11 million) bonus.

The slight rise on last year’s bonuses come following a year in which the search giant’s stock soared nearly 60 percent.

Google CEO Larry Page and co-founder Sergey Brin will not receive a bonus, according to a filing made on Monday with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, continuing the founder’s practice of not taking one.

However, it’s worth noting that Page and Brin, who are each paid a $1 a year salary at Google, have a large portion of their personal wealth linked to Google's lucrative stock.

Google's shares increased 58 percent in 2013, breaking the $1,000 (£602) mark for the first time.

Google chief legal officer and head of corporate development David Drummond will receive a $3 million (£1.81 million) bonus, Google said, a slight fall on last year's bonus of $3.3 million (£1.99 million).

Pichette and Arora each received bonuses of $2.8 million (£1.69 million) last year.

Last month, Google announced it would pay executive chairman Eric Schmidt a $6 million (£3.61 million) discretionary cash bonus and awarded him $100 million (£60.2 million) in restricted stock units.

Shares of Google finished down 0.3 percent on Monday, at $1,211.57.
