University of Warwick security unit signs student deal with CISSP
Beefing up UK PLC cybersecurity expertise

The IT security unit of the University of Warwick has announced a certification agreement with information security body (ISC)², the administrator of CISSP professional security accreditation.
The WMG research unit at the university has made the deal, which will see its MSc in cyber security and management graduates be helped into the workforce. The agreement involves a specially devised (ISC)² three-day CISSP compact course being offered to them and the opportunity to become associate members of the (ISC)² 4,000-strong professional community.
"This agreement allows our students to gain a certification that provides a breadth of requisite underpinnings in the cyber security domain,” said Harjinder Singh Lallie, senior teaching fellow for cyber security at WMG.

"We consider the CISSP certification to be the most highly sought-after in cyber security. It carries international recognition and significance and provides our students with an excellent advantage when seeking employment."
WMG has 700 enrolled students. WMG now becomes the second university in the UK to support its MSc programme graduates with an (ISC)² certification programme, following Royal Holloway College at the University of London.
(ISC)² has also launched its Young Professionals initiative, a new group designed to "help cultivate the information security workforce of the future".
The pilot stage will begin with eight (ISC)² chapters around the world, and it will be rolled out across the organisation in early 2013. Membership is aimed at those still in secondary school, recently graduated from university or new to the workforce.
It is open to aspiring and active cyber security professionals age 35 and under "who are looking for ways to bolster their careers and deepen their connections to the professional community", said (ISC)².
Members of the Young Professionals will gain access to mentoring opportunities, specialised education, career support and guidance, as well as networking opportunities.
