Adobe rushes out patches for Reader and Acrobat

The updates will mend security holes in the software

Adobe has rushed out a pair of updates to its Reader and Acrobat Pro products on the Mac to tackle security holes in the software. The updates also improve stability of Reader and Acrobat, according to Adobe.

Both the Adobe Reader 9.4 and Adobe Acrobat 9.4 Pro updates promise to address "critical vulnerabilities," according to Adobe's release notes. Specifically, the vulnerabilities could cause either application to crash, allowing an attacker to take control of an affected system. Adobe posted an advisory about the vulnerability last month.

The Adobe Reader 9.4 update comes in two versions - a 7.28MB release for Power PC-based Macs and a 7.47MB update for machines using Intel chips. Both versions of the update run on Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later.

Adobe Acrobat 9.4 Pro comes as a lone 69.72MB update for both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macs. It, too, requires OS X 10.4.11 or later.
