IT governance certificate to be offered

IT auditing organisation ISACA has introduced a new certificate that will enable employees involved in corporate governance to have their ability assessed.

The Certificate for the Governance of Enterprise IT will allow professionals to demonstrate their competence in a variety of skills, as well as displaying their ability to assess the contribution made by IT to an organisation while managing the risks associated with those IT systems.

Ron Hale, ISACA's director of information security practices, said that the certification reflected a change in the way that IT was perceived within organisations: "IT is now an integral part of the business and not an additional service - and it's some of those compliance requirements that are forcing that transition."

He said that the first exam in the new certificate would be held in December. but in the meantime, grandfathering provision (i.e. candidates with significant experience would be able to gain certification without taking the exam), was available now.
