Twitter down, outage reported in UK and US

Micro-blogging site Twitter is experiencing service issues in the UK and the US. The extent of the problem has not yet been determined. However, the company admitted on its status page at around 16.30 BST that there was a site isssue.
“Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue,” the company said.

Hootsuite, which relies on the Twitter API, was also unable to retrieve updates, and the API Status page also reported service disruption to favorites, friends/ids, search, statuses/home, and users/show – although stream and userstream are reportedly operating normally.
The problems do not seem to be affecting all users. Some users' services appear to have returned already. Twitter was not available for comment at the time of writing.
The news follows reports earlier today that Google Talk, a desktop and mobile text and voice chat service used by many Google Gmail customers (also known as Gchat), had suffered a widespread outage.
Google admitted that the issue was affecting "a majority of users."
Cloud-based services have had a rough time of late, with several high-profile outages. Among them, Amazon Web Services going down in June and Salesforce.com suffering outages in June and July. Google's Gmail suffered an outage last month as well, affecting as many as 4.8 million users.
