Sky says British people are big tech fans

The average Brit owns £3,000 worth of gadgets, says Sky HD.
Research by the TV broadcaster revealed that on average UK tech fans only know how to use around half of the functions available on their gadgets. Sky said the 'gadget gap' or the difference between the amount spent on gadgets and the value of the function they actually use on those devices amounts to £52bn.
The research also revealed that Brits are not tech savvy as they might have hoped. Nearly half (47 percent) said they didn't know that to experience the benefits of a HD-ready TV, they had to connect the display to a HD device such as a Blu-ray player or HD set-top box. Furthermore, two percent admitted they thought they needed to be born with HD Ready eyesight to enjoy HD TV.

Nealy two thirds of women will refer to the instruction manual if they don't know how to work a gadget, while only 54 percent of men said they'd do the same. Furthermore, just 25 percent of men will seek help from someone else, compared to 47 percent of women.
"It's amazing how much money people are wasting by not using things to their full potential," said Fraser Macdonald, editor of Stuff magazine.
