Google Android Market soars past 10 billion downloads
But Apple's App Store now past 15 billion downloads since launch in July 2008

Google said it exceeded 10 billion total app downloads from the Android Market over the weekend at a growth rate of one billion downloads per month.
By comparison, Apple's App Store passed the 15 billion download mark in July, with more than 200 million iOS devices now in use globally.
Google estimates there are more than 200 million Android smartphones and tablets.

"We can't wait to see where this accelerating growth takes us in 2012," said Eric Chu, direct of the Android Developer Ecosystem in a blog post yesterday.
To celebrate the milestone, Google partnered with some Android developers to offer a new set of apps each day for the next 10 days that cost only 10 cents each. The current list is Asphalt 6 HD, Color & Draw for Kids, Endomondo Sports Tracker Pro, Fieldrunners HD, Great Little War Game, Minecraft, Paper Camera, SketchbookMobile, Soundhound Infinity and Swiftkey X.
Google launched the Android Market on October 22, 2008; the App Store from Apple opened on July 10, 2008.
