Network Rail details new £350m telecoms framework
The framework will cover the design, build, operation and support of communication systems and ‘transport media solutions’

Network Rail, the authority that is responsible for the UK’s railway network, has revealed details of a £350 million telecoms framework that will cover ‘multiple projects’.
The framework is divided into a number of lots, where suppliers will be required to design, build, install, configure, test, operate, maintain and support the deployment of “communications systems and transport media solutions”.
We contacted Network Rail to try and establish exactly what the telecom projects are for, but the IT department was not willing to comment.

However, a spokesperson for the authority said "this framework does not replace an existing agreement, it is for new projects".
An online contract notice also states that the framework is being issued by Network Rail Telecoms (NRT), which it describes as a “single, national, integrated organisation".
"NRT is responsible for all of Network Rail’s telecom assets, strategies and policy decisions, including operating, maintain and enhancing the infrastructure and delivery of telecoms services to customers," reads the notice.
The contract will run for three years and those interested in participating in the tender process have until 5pm today to issue requests.
In other news, Network Rail recently awarded a multi-million pound contract to O2 Unify for the upgrade of its entire Cisco switch and router estate across 450 sites.
