Dell to beef up Kace management appliance range

K-Series Advanced to fit businesses with less than 3,500 seats

Dell is outfitting its new Kace systems management appliances with advanced hardware as it tries to fill software and hardware management needs of midsize businesses with up to 3,500 employees.

The K-Series Advanced line is designed to remotely manage hardware and software in IT infrastructures. Dell acquired Kace last year to boost its remote support and system management offerings.

Dell's Kace offerings are designed to support 300 to 20,000 PCs in an IT infrastructure. The system management services include software patch deployment, hardware configuration and security audits. The company also offers software tools to develop customised systems management features.

The new K1100-ADV and K2100-ADV are rackmount appliances that can serve up to 3,500 seats, but perform different functions. The two socket appliances are equipped with Intel Xeon quad-core processors and come in RAID 5 configurations.

The K1100-ADV, which is for systems management, offers up to 12GB of memory and 1.5TB of SAS storage. The K2100-ADV, which is for systems deployment, offers up to 6GB of memory and up to 750GB of SATA storage.

The K1000 series offers asset management functions such as software distribution, licence compliance and patch management, which are not provided by the K2000 series. The K2000 series includes disk imaging and network-based OS installation features.

The appliances are now available, though Dell could not provide further availability and pricing details.
