Netgear wins twice at Techworld awards

List of all the winners.

Netgear was the big winner at the Techworld 2006 product awards.

The company, which is best known for its consumer Wi-Fi products, failed to win in the wireless category but did scoop prizes for the best Infrastructure product, for its FS728TS switch and the Best Small Business Product for its FVX538

The judges highlighted Netgear’s value-for-money as the prime reason for the company’s success; they were impressed at the company’s ability to pack in a lot of features at a competitive price

One of the areas that is causing a good deal of current concern for IT managers is their inability to track what devices are on their network. With a rise in malware and a need to comply with regulatory demands, sysadmins need to be more aware of what their users are up to.

The winner of the Security Software Product of the Year was the Devicewall 4.0 from Centennial Software, a system that enables managers to track what’s on their networks and manage access to all devices by automatically encrypting all file downloads; this provides a degree of security without implementing a blanket ban.

The Security Product of the Year went to Arbor Networks for its Peakflow X3.4, a product that offers intelligent collection and analysis of all security threats on a network.

A security company also won the award for the Most Innovative Product of the Year. This goes to the company that has used technology in a particularly imaginative and original way.

This year, the prize went to Consentry for its Secure LAN Controller, a product with the ability to perform deep packet inspections, correlating user activity with corporate policies and doing all of this at Gigabit speeds.

The judges were impressed with the product’s ability to handle a range of functions, all from within a single box.

A couple of new American companies also created an impression. Zenprise’s network management tool, the Zenprise 1.0.3, took best Troubleshooting Tool of the Year and Extricom won the best Wireless Product of the Year with its innovative Extricom Wireless System.

The Storage Product of the Year was snapped up Acopia Networks for its ARX Series. The judges were impressed with its virtualised approach to handling NAS devices. And speaking of virtualisation, the Continuity Product of the Year was won by VMware for its ESX Server.

The Network Monitoring Product of the Year was won by Ipswitch for the Whatsup Professional 2006 and Silver Peak Systems won the Acceleration Product of the Year for its NX-7500, a device that improves delivery by localising information while retaining central control.

The remaining awards were gathered by Zultys, which won the Telecommunications Product of the Year for its MX30 and iPass which won Wireless Application Product of the Year for its iPassConnect Universal Client.
