Pluralsight bags $135M to fortify online coding, tech course offerings

Pluralsight, a Salt Lake City e-learning company that offers video-based courses on everything from Windows 8 to WebRTC to Apple iOS, has raised a fresh $135 million in venture funding.

The Series B funding, led by Insight Venture Partners, Iconiq Capital and Sorenson Capital, adds to $27.5 million in Series A funding scored last year. That earlier funding was used to scoop up four other companies to help build Pluralsight's e-learning portfolio in areas such as open source programming.

"Pluralsight is at an inflection point, and this [Series B] funding will exponentially fuel our growth in the enterprise space, providing businesses with innovations in interactivity and measurable learning outcomes," said CEO Aaron Skonnard, in a statement.

Pluralsight's offerings start at $29 per month for individuals, though the company also sells through businesses and academia, and does offer free trials and kiddie courses. The business boasts more than 3,000 courses on tech and creative topics, including more than 100 on Microsoft SharePoint and nearly that many on virtualization, accessible via desktop and mobile devices.

Around since 2004, Pluralsight competes with online learning sites such as Codecademy (where I'm in the middle of a free HTML course) and Lynda.com, which my employer IDG makes available for free to employees.
