Tech City UK's CEO Joanna Shields is one of two women in technology who have been appointed to the London Stock Exchange Group's (LSEG) board of directors as non-executive directors today.
LSEG said that it is bringing onboard the new appointments particularly for their IT sector experience, "reflecting the group's continued focus on delivering innovative technology solutions to its customers around the world".
Shields has just announced that former Blackberry executive Gerard Grech will take her place as Tech City UK CEO when she steps down at the start of February. Tech City UK is the three-year-old government-backed organisation tasked with driving the UK tech movement.

During her tenure as CEO, Shields worked with the LSE on establishing new High Growth Segment market. However, the success of some of the initiatives that she has been behind is yet to be realised as, for example, not one firm has listed on the new market. Nonetheless, she has over 25 years of experience building global technology businesses, having held senior executive roles at Facebook, AOL and Google.
Shields is being appointed to the LSEG board alongside Sherry Coutu, a former CEO, angel investor and consultant, who currently serves on the boards of Raspberry Pi, Artfinder, Cambridge University's finance board, Cambridge Assessment and Cambridge University Press. She also serves on the advisory boards of Linkedin.com, Care.com and a number of not-for-profit companies in the technology and education sector.
Chris Gibson-Smith, chairman of LSEG, said: "They both bring strong track records as entrepreneurs, building businesses and delivering technology-based solutions to customers. Their experience will be of great value, as we drive our business forward, with a strong focus on partnering with our customers and delivering shareholder value."
