IE9 RC downloads reaches 2 million mark

Release Candidate web browser proved popular

The Release Candidate (RC) version of Microsoft's latest web browser, Internet Explorer 9, has been downloaded more than two million times.

IE9 RC was only made available to web users last week, but the according to Microsoft the web browser has proved popular.

"Just a few days after its public availability, customers have already downloaded Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate two million times and taken it for a spin," Roger Capriotti, director of Internet Explorer product marketing, said in a blog.

"We continue to be humbled by the enthusiasm and uptake of IE9."

Microsoft said current IE9 Beta users will be prompted to download RC via Windows Update later this month.

IE9's release candidate, or RC, features faster performance, a small memory footprint, new support for additional web standards and the opt-in Tracking Protection that Microsoft has touted as its answer to calls for a Do Not Track feature in all browsers.

In December, Microsoft revealed Internet Explorer 9 had been downloaded 15 million times by Windows 7 and Vista users in the 10 weeks since the beta was unveiled.
