Release candidate version of Mozilla's Safari lookalike launched

Camino 2 RC1 now available

Mozilla's Safari like Mac browser Camino has been offered as a RC1 release candidate.

Camino 2.0 RC1 will be the final preview of what will become Camino 2. Mozilla developers are asking users to test the release to make sure that "no critical problems remain before the final release".

New and enhanced features include improved tabbed browsing, new security features including support for the Google Safe Browsing service, which provides warnings about many potentially malicious websites, full content zoom and download notifications.

The release candidate includes improved support for Full Keyboard Access, enhanced annoyance blocking, including an exceptions list to allow disabling "Block Flash animations" on a per-site basis and an "Allow Flash From This Site" contextual menu, new AppleScript capabilities and web content support using version 1.9.0 of Mozilla's Gecko rendering engine, which promises thousands of bug fixes, better web plug-in compatibility and performance, enhanced support for web standards, and new technologies like JavaScript 1.8.

Users currently running one of the Camino 2.0 beta releases can update to the RC1 release by selecting "Camino" from the file menu, then "Check for updates"

The current stable version of the browser - Camino 1.6 - requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later, Intel or PowerPC Mac. Camino 2.0 is available for Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

Camino is an open source web browser developed with a focus on providing the best possible experience for Mac OS X users insists Mozilla.
