SAP scraps European Sapphire conference
Not downturn, honest guv, claims company

SAP has canned its annual European Sapphire conference and instead is planning to hold a series of smaller customer events.
"It's not a reaction to the market economy, but instead a reaction to what customers want," said spokesman Saswato Das. "People are saying they want a more intimate experience, something closer to home, preferably in their language."
However, European customers may also be weighing the cost of a train ticket or petrol against that of plane and hotel fare as the global economy continues to stagnate.

SAP has not yet determined which cities will get the events, though they are scheduled to begin in May, Das said.
The company still plans to go on with the US Sapphire show, set for 11-14 May in Orlando.
